You Are Here: New Ideas for Beaded Jewellery

SEA GEMS        a necklace made featuring sea worn glass

A new bead jewellery design by Barbara Case

Have you ever sat on a beach to sift the sand or pick up pebbles and discovered some ancient worn-smooth glass? Well, for years this has been one of my favourite seaside occupations and I often return home with these 'gems' only to wonder what to do with them.

Last year whilst in Crete, I found several on a stretch of deserted coast and as usual these came home to linger for a while amidst a bowl of interesting pebbles. I often thought they would make good focal points for beaded jewellery and so eventually sat down to experiment. The result is this necklace.Necklace made from 'sea glass' and rocailles

To make a similar necklace you will need just three randomly shaped pieces of worn glass and two complimentary colours of rocaille beads. You should then look carefully at the detail and copy the design. The pieces of glass are held firmly in place by fine jewellery wire and eleven Swarovski crystal stones are used to give an added sparkle.

Note try using beautiful pepples instead of glass for a similar effect.

To see more of my jewellery take a look at the sample pages from my book Making More Beaded Jewellery by Barbara Case, on the Rainbow Disks website: www.rainbowdisks.com . Beginners to jewellery making would find this book most helpful in making the above, and any other, necklace.

Making More Beaded Jewellery  has 50 projects (necklaces, earrings and bracelets) and, like all my books, gives the reader detailed 'recipes' (lists of ingredients) and methods with high quality pictures and fully illustrated techniques.
